The default workflow members use to select their Top and Sub Categories is described here:

How To Select Categories As A Member

The default workflow has members first select a Top Category in the Contact Details form and then select Sub Categories in the Listing Details form.

However, some website owners may prefer that member select both the Top and Sub Categories in the same form.  This article shows how to customize either the Contact Details form or Listing Details form to make this possible.

Categories Selection / Listing - Additional Details - Member Form

For this first example, we'll add both the Top and Sub Categories selection fields to the "Listing - Additional Details - Member" form.

Customize the Listing - Additional Details - Member form:

Add a new field above the "services" field:

Set up the new field with the following settings:

1. Type of Field: Top Category List

2. Field Label: %%%listing_top_category%%%

3. Database Variable: profession_id

4. Field Help Text: %%%listing_top_category_tooltip%%%

5. Input View: Turn ON Input View, Turn OFF the other Display Settings.

Click on Save Changes.

Login as a member and see the new method of selecting categories as a member:

Please see how it looks on the Member Dashboard:

NOTE: If the subcategories are not visible in the form, verify that the Member Specialties are enabled in the Post Publishing Tab for that Membership Plan.

To have the selection in just one form, the default field to select subcategories must be deleted on the "Listing - Contact Details - Form". To complete this step access the form and remove the default field called profession_id, go to Actions >> Delete Field.
