Deleting Categories

Deleting Top or Sub Level categories can have unforeseen consequences if the Top-Level category has Sub Level categories associated with it, or if members have already selected this Top-Level category on their profile. The same would apply to Sub Level categories that are being deleted.

To avoid these potential issues, our team has implemented a fail-safe that will check for these potential circumstances and will alert the admin.

System Behavior When Deleting Categories

When deleting a category that contains active data, the admin panel will display specific prompts to protect the directory structure:

  • Top-Level with Members & Sub-Categories: A prompt will appear to move both the active members and the sub-categories to an alternate Top-Level destination.

  • Top-Level with Sub-Categories: A prompt will appear to move the associated sub-level categories to a different Top-Level category.

  • Sub-Sub Level Category: An option will be provided to move the sub-sub category under a completely new parent Sub-level category.
