When it comes to accepting online payments, there are essentially 2 components - the Payment Gateway and the Merchant Account.
The Payment Gateway is a platform to process a credit card transaction, and the Merchant Account is essentially a bank account in that the processed funds are collected.
PayPal Payments Pro is a combination of these 2 components rolled into one. Payflow is the Payment Gateway and PayPal is also the Merchant Account.
PayPal also offers Payflow as a standalone Payment Gateway that can be used to connect to the compatible 3rd party Merchant Account.
IMPORTANT: Paypal Payflow Pro is a "business account" that requires a monthly fee. Please confirm the PayPal account is a paid business account that includes the "Direct Payments" feature before continuing.
If the PayPal account does not have a monthly fee and the "Direct Payments" feature, please refer to this article instead.
In order to use PayPal Payments Pro as the payment processor, the following credentials need to be added:
- Partner (Merchant Name, EG: PayPalCA)
- Merchant Login
- Merchant Username
- Merchant Password
- PayPal API Username
- PayPal API Password
- PayPal API Signature
If the owner of the site has a PayPal Payflow account and is having trouble locating the credentials above for the account, it is recommended to contact PayPal and let them know the website is being connected to collect payments, and the developer requested the credentials above.
Please follow these steps to add the credentials to the website: Finance ยป Payment Settings - Setting Up A Payment Gateway
NOTE: If the site is migrating from PayPal Pro to Stripe as the main payment gateway, the registered credit cards on file will automatically be migrated to work with Stripe without further action required.
